They’re learning!

I keep getting frustrated at the kids seemingly lack of German skills. We’ve lived here over a month! Come on guys! And then this happens.

Me, R, and J are walking home from school.

R: Mama.

Me: Yes, Rory.

R: Mama. How do you say in German … Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut?

Me: umm, Rory. Think about that.

R: <pauses and thinks> I just want to know how you say in German … Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut?

Me: Well buddy, I don’t think I can tell you that.

R: WHY?! I just need to know … Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut.

Then it hits him.

R: Oh!

It’s clicking ! They are getting it and they don’t even know it.

Note: Translation for, “Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut” is “My German is not so good.”
